The Officers and Members of the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department Regret to Announce the Passing of Past Auxiliary President Louise E. Dell

The officers and members of the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department regret to announce the passing Louise Dell, past President of the BVFD Auxiliary. Mrs. Dell served as President of the BVFD Auxiliary from 1984 - 1999, a total of 16 years. Under her leadership, the Auxiliary was very active, running a Canteen on fire calls and hosting numerous community events. Over the years she has also served in the offices of Treasurer, Vice President and most recently as Secretary.

Louise E. Dell

Mrs. Dell's fire service legacy extends beyond our Department. Louise also served as President of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Maryland State Firemen's Association. During recent years, she chaired the Legislative Commitee and served as Office Manager of the Maryland State Firemen's Association Legislative Office in Annapolis. Louise also served as an Assistant Secretary for the Maryland State Firemen's Association.

Mrs. Dell served as President of the Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Association Ladies' Auxiliary for many years and served as a member of the Hyde Park Volunteer Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary (Baltimore County).

Mrs. Dell has served for approximately 17 years as Recording Secretary of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association, which covers the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. She received the President's Award for Outstanding Service in 1990 and 1994, and was named Fire Person of the Year for the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association in 2002.

Mrs. Dell served as Chaplain, Vice President and President of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association. Louise has served in many positions, including President, for the Ladies' Auxiliary, Baltimore County Volunteer Firemen's Association. Louise served as President of the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire-Rescue Association Ladies' Auxiliary three times (for a total of 12 years).

Mrs. Dell was inducted into the Maryland State Firemen's Association Hall of Fame in June 2002, as well as the Ladies' Auxiliary Hall of Fame (the only woman to ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame of both organizations.)

In addition to 40 years of actively serving the Fire Service, Mrs. Dell served 12 years as President of the Maryland Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders. She became the Vice President of the National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders for 2 years and as Region III Director for several years.

In addition, Louise worked for the CIA, and retired from the Federal Highway Administration.
